NYLSC

National Young Leaders State Conference

Trey headed out this morning to Chevy Chase, Maryland to attend a 4-day conference. Last spring his English teacher nominated him to go. He was the only one elected from the school to go this year. Quite the honor, we say.

So he flew out of Tampa this morning at 7:05 and arrives in Baltimore at 9:15 and hits the ground running from there. From 8 in the morning until 9 at night, they have the kids doing stuff. (By the way, the alarm was set for 4am and we didn't get up till 5:30am and FLEW to the airport to get him there in time.) He arrives home Sunday evening and hopefully will be full of all the stuff he has learned and will apply it.

Below is a short summary of NYLSC from their website:

National Young Leaders State Conference

The National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC) challenges each scholar to step forward with conviction and confidence, to grasp the concepts of leadership and to act upon their dreams of making a difference in their communities. With the insight and guidance of highly trained facilitators and the assistance of their peers, scholars work within each activity to hone their plan of personal leadership. The eight core leadership power tools are communication, conflict resolution, decision making, goal setting, group dynamics, leadership techniques, project management and self awareness.
NYLSC scholars strengthen the skills they need to succeed in school and gain new perspective on how they view their role as leaders in their communities, leaving the conference well-equipped to begin their journey.

What an honor! I bet you're just bustin'. :) Will he be taking a lot of pictures? You'll have to post some.

I got to stand at a lookout in West Virginia last weekend: I could see Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia at one spot. That was fun. :) That's as close to Pennsylvania and Maryland as I think I'm gonna get!

Miss you guys!

WOW! Too Cool~ I bet he felt so good to be the only one from his school to go. Have him post what all he got to do - Congrats to you both for doing a great job in raising such a fine young man! We need to continue encouraging our kids to be influencer's.

by the way- we had 5 bags of candy and it was all gone in 45 minutes. Lots of kids and it was fun! :)
