Colleen, check to see that your pictures are in a small format. They probably need to be resized unless when you take your pictures you use the lowest pixel available.
That's probably the problem.
go to your picture "software" and then click picture information : you'll see the size of the photo and you can probably see from the menu "resize" photo... :)
